Arts festival just around the corner

There are now only a couple of weeks to go until an extravaganza of culture hits Bassetlaw.

The ‘Fabulous Arts in Bassetlaw’ (FAiB) festival is an initiative, now in its second year, conjured up by Bassetlaw District Council to help promote art amongst local people and celebrate the diverse artistic talent in the area.

The event will run from 4th-19th July across the whole of the Bassetlaw District with major attractions occurring in Retford, Worksop, Misterton, Sutton-Cum-Lound, Tuxford and Mattersey.

Some of the many FAiB activities already confirmed include a production of ‘West Side Story’ at the Majestic and a performance by ‘Black Umfolosi 5’ – a world famous Zimbabwean song and dance group – at the Acorn Theatre.

Eloise Short Quartet will also be performing at Worksop Town Hall on 4th July. Eloise Short has been singing in live bands around Sheffield, the UK and the World for over seven years. At twenty-six she finds herself enjoying a more mellow type of music and as well as writing her own songs, has a passion for jazz. You can buy tickets to see ESQ for Worksop Tourist Information Centre – 01909 501148.

Councillor Keith Isard, Cabinet Member for Community Prosperity, said: “There are just two weeks left until the Fabulous Arts in Bassetlaw festival. This year’s event is going to be even bigger and better than last year’s. There really is something for everyone, including workshops, music performances, exhibitions and a craft fayre which will take place each Sunday in Retford Market Square”

“The aim of the festival is to address important issues such as regeneration and learning as well as to increase the range and number of opportunities to participate in the arts throughout the district.”
